Below you will find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions for Montage.
If you experience any issues with the functionality of Montage, please do not delete the VSCO app. Deleting the VSCO app will delete all media in your Studio.
Please note that we do not offer the option to create landscape or additional canvas size Montages other than portrait orientation at this time.

Q: What is Montage?
A: Montage is a tool that allows you to tell a story through a video. You can layer videos, images, and shapes to make a moving collage. You can use images and videos you already have in your Studio or camera roll.
Q: What are scenes?
A: Scenes are areas where you can add media, such as images and videos, and shapes. You can think of Montage as a book, and scenes as the chapters in a book.
Q: How do I add or delete a scene?
A: Tap on the scene at the bottom and then tap on delete in the toolbar.
Q: How do I rearrange a scene?
A: You can rearrange any scene by holding and dragging the scene at the bottom of your screen.
Q: How many scenes can I add to my Montage?
A: You can add as many scenes as you want. There is no maximum number of scenes in place.
Q: How many images can I add to my Montage?
A: You can add up to 5 images to a scene at a time, but there is no limit to the number of images you can add to your Montage.
Q: How many videos can I add to my Montage?
A: You can add 5 videos to a scene at a time, but there is no limit to the number of videos you can add to your Montage.
Q: Is there a time limit for each scene?
A: Yes, each scene has a maximum length of one minute. You can always add multiple scenes to increase your Montage time length. There is no time limit for how long your Montage can be if you are exporting to your camera roll, however, there is a 2 limit time if you are publishing to your VSCO profile.
Q: Do I have to keep VSCO open when exporting a Montage?
A: Yes. If you close VSCO the export will not complete.
Q: Can I save a draft of my Montage in Studio?
A: Yes
Q: What do backward and forward do?
A: As you add layers of shapes or media in a scene, you may want to change how the media appears on your scene.To do this, tap on the backward on the video, image or shape you want to go to the back of the scene, or forward icon to bring that image video or shape to the front.
Q: How do I adjust the volume of a video in a scene?
A: Tap on the scene at the bottom of the screen and you will see a volume option in the tool kit. Please note that volume is currently not available on Android devices.
Q: How do I get the double exposure effect in my Montage?
A: To do this, add the same image you are using again and layer it on top of the first image. You can touch and drag the image to offset it a bit, then play around with the opacity slider until you reach your desired look.
Q: How do I preview the work I have done in my Montage?
A: Tap the Playback button next to Finish in the top right corner of the screen. You can always continue editing after you playback your current Montage.
Q: How do I export my Montage?
A: Tap on Finish in the top right corner and tap on Export at the bottom of the screen.
Q: How do I export my Montage as a collage image?
A: If you don’t want to export your Montage as a video, only add one scene. When you export the Montage you can save it as an image. Note: this functionality will be on iOS soon.
Q: The app crashed while I was creating a Montage, is there a way to recover my work?
A: Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a Montage if the app crashed.
Q: Why can’t I favorite or repost a Montage I see in my feed?
A: This functionality will be coming soon!
Q: What is an aspect ratio?
A: The aspect ratio dictates how your Montage will look. 9:16 is great for Instagram stories. 1:1 looks great on your VSCO profile or Instagram feed. 16:9 can work as a youtube video, for example.
Q: If I background the VSCO app while creating a Montage will I lose my work?
A: No, you will not lose any work on your Montage if you background the VSCO app.
Q: Can I apply a preset to images or videos while in Montage?
A: You will need to edit the photo or video in your Studio first, export to your camera roll and then import into your new Montage.
Q: Will there be recipes or templates with Montage?
A: At this time, we do not offer recipes or templates.
Q: Is there a way to change Montage editor from a black to a white background?
A: At this time, we only offer Montage editor on a black background.
Q: Can I edit or import RAW files in Montage?
A: You cannot edit or import RAW files in Montage at this time. If you'd like to use a RAW file in Montage, we recommend to import the RAW file into VSCO Studio, edit the image if you desire, and export the image. This will export as a JPEG which you can then use in Montage.
