Though we see photos for what they are on our camera rolls, they’re really just bundles of digital data — pixels, color maps, and code. The RAW format is the file type traditionally used by professionals given that they offer incredible creative control over an image by providing you with a file that consists of unprocessed or minimally processed camera sensor data, unlike JPG or other compressed file formats. Now that this file type is increasingly available on mobile phones, you too can create with uncompromised quality and editing flexibility.
RAW and ProRAW editing is available to all VSCO creators on iOS. Here’s what you need to know about editing RAW and ProRAW files on VSCO:
FAQs
What iOS devices and versions can I edit RAW and ProRAW files on?
VSCO currently supports RAW and ProRAW editing for iPhone 12 and newer Apple devices running on iOS 16 and above. Note we do not currently support developer / Beta iOS versions.
Can I edit RAW or ProRAW files on Android or VSCO Studio on Web?
RAW and ProRAW support is not available on any Android device or on the web at this time.
Please note, if you import a RAW file into the VSCO Studio on Android or web, the thumbnail preview will be a low-resolution JPEG. We do not recommend importing RAW files on these devices as your resulting JPEG will be poor quality.
Can I export a RAW or ProRAW image?
VSCO currently does not offer the option to export RAW or ProRAW files in the original RAW file format (e.g. .DNG). You can still edit a RAW or ProRAW file and export as a JPG.
Can I capture a RAW image with VSCO?
Please note that RAW capture within the VSCO app is no longer available.
Why can I not apply Film X presets to my ProRAW image?
This is a known bug and our team is hard at work on addressing issues with Film X presets and ProRAW images.
Why is the blur effect not showing in my image?
ProRAW images edited and exported using the Blur tool are not working as expected at this time. Our team is hard at work on addressing this issue.
